🍞 No-Oven Stovetop Bread – Soft, Fluffy, and Perfect Every Time

  • Author: WAFA LI

Ingredients

• 2 cups all-purpose flour (plus extra for dusting)
• 1 tsp sugar
• 2 ¼ tsp (1 packet) active dry yeast
• ¾ tsp salt
• ¾ cup warm water (105–110°F / 40–43°C)
• 1 tbsp olive oil or melted butter

Instructions

  1. In a bowl, mix warm water, sugar, and yeast. Let sit 5–10 minutes until foamy.
  2. Add flour, salt, and oil. Stir until a shaggy dough forms.
  3. Turn onto a floured surface and knead 5–7 minutes until smooth and elastic.
  4. Place in a greased bowl, cover with a damp cloth, and let rise 1 hour or until doubled.
  5. Punch down dough. Shape into a round loaf. Cover and rest 15 minutes.
  6. Heat a deep, heavy-bottomed pot or Dutch oven over medium heat (no oil needed).
  7. Place dough in the hot pot, seam-side down. Cover with a tight-fitting lid.
  8. Cook 20–25 minutes, rotating the pot every 5 minutes for even browning (like rotisserie).
  9. Flip bread carefully and cook covered another 10–15 minutes until golden and hollow-sounding when tapped.
  10. Cool slightly before slicing.

Perfect with soups, stews, or slathered in butter!

💡 No Dutch oven? Use any deep pot with a lid—even a wok with a plate as a lid works!
