🎃 Jack-O’-Lantern Hand Pies: A Spooky-Sweet Halloween Treat

  • Author: WAFA LI

Ingredients

• 1 sheet refrigerated pie crust or puff pastry (thawed)
• ¾ cup pumpkin puree (unsweetened)
• 2 tbsp brown sugar or maple syrup
• ½ tsp cinnamon
• ¼ tsp nutmeg
• ¼ tsp ginger
• Pinch of salt
• 1 egg (for egg wash)
• Black food-safe gel or icing (for carving faces)

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. In a bowl, mix pumpkin puree, brown sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, ginger, and salt until smooth.
  3. Roll out pie crust and cut into 4-inch circles (use a bowl or cutter).
  4. Place 1–2 tsp filling in the center of half the circles.
  5. Brush edges with water. Top with remaining circles. Seal with a fork.
  6. Use a small knife to carve jack-o’-lantern faces: triangle eyes, nose, and jagged smile.
  7. Beat egg and brush over tops for golden shine.
  8. Bake 18–22 minutes, until golden and puffed.
  9. Cool slightly. Use black icing to enhance the carved features for extra spookiness!

✨ Serve warm as party favors, school treats, or a festive dessert!

💡 Make ahead: Freeze unbaked pies on a tray, then store in a bag. Bake from frozen (+2–3 mins).
