  • Author: WAFA LI

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 1/4 cups all-purpose flour, leveled 🌾
  • 1/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder 🍫
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda 🥄
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt 🧂
  • 1 stick (113g) salted butter, room temperature 🧈
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar 🍚
  • 1/2 cup light brown sugar 🍯
  • 2 large eggs 🥚
  • 1 1/4 cups mashed very ripe bananas (about 4 bananas) 🍌
  • 1/2 cup sour cream 🥛
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract 🍦
  • 1/2 cup milk chocolate chips 🍫
  • For the topping: 1/3 cup milk chocolate chips 🍫
  • For the topping: 2 tablespoons whole milk 🥛
  • For the topping: 3 tablespoons powdered sugar 🍚

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9×5-inch loaf pan with cooking spray or butter.
  2. In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, cocoa powder, baking soda and salt until evenly combined.
  3. In a large bowl, beat the room-temperature butter, granulated sugar and light brown sugar with a hand mixer on high for 2 minutes until creamy.
  4. Add the eggs one at a time, beating after each addition until fully incorporated.
  5. Stir in the mashed bananas, sour cream and vanilla. Beat on medium for 1–2 minutes until smooth and there are no lumps of sour cream, scraping the bowl as needed.
  6. With the mixer on low, add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients and mix just until no flour streaks remain. Do not overmix.
  7. Fold in 1/2 cup milk chocolate chips with a rubber spatula until evenly distributed.
  8. Pour the batter into the prepared loaf pan and smooth the top with a spatula.
  9. Bake for 55–60 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean or with a few moist crumbs.
  10. Let the bread cool in the pan for 15 minutes, then run a knife around the edges and turn out onto a wire rack to cool completely.
  11. While the loaf cools, make the chocolate topping: place 1/3 cup chocolate chips and 2 tablespoons milk in a small microwave-safe bowl. Microwave for 15–20 seconds, then stir until smooth.
  12. Whisk in the powdered sugar until glossy. Let the glaze cool slightly until the bread is completely cooled.
  13. Drizzle the chocolate topping over the cooled banana bread, slice and serve. Enjoy!
