Ingredients

• ½ cup (1 stick) unsalted butter, softened
• ½ cup brown sugar
• ¼ cup granulated sugar
• 1 egg
• 1 tsp vanilla extract
• 1 ¾ cups all-purpose flour
• ½ tsp baking soda
• ½ tsp salt
• 1 cup chocolate chips (semi-sweet, milk, or dark)
• Optional: flaky sea salt for finishing


Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9-inch round cake pan or line with parchment paper.
  2. In a large bowl, beat butter and both sugars until light and fluffy (2–3 minutes).
  3. Beat in egg and vanilla until smooth.
  4. In another bowl, whisk flour, baking soda, and salt. Gradually add to wet ingredients, mixing until just combined.
  5. Fold in chocolate chips.
  6. Press dough evenly into the prepared pan. Smooth the top.
  7. Bake 20–25 minutes, until golden around the edges and soft in the center (a toothpick should have moist crumbs).
  8. Let cool completely in the pan on a wire rack.

Serve as-is or dress it up:
• Frost with vanilla buttercream and sprinkle with extra chips
• Top with ice cream and hot fudge for à la mode magic
• Dust with powdered sugar for a simple finish
