Cinnamon Apple Crisp – A Warm, Comforting Classic Dessert

  • Author: WAFA LI

Ingredients

For the filling:
• 4 cups peeled and sliced apples (Honeycrisp or Granny Smith)
• ¼ cup brown sugar
• 1 tbsp lemon juice
• 1 tsp cinnamon
• ½ tsp nutmeg
• 1 tbsp cornstarch (to thicken juices)

For the crisp topping:
• ½ cup old-fashioned oats (gluten-free if needed)
• ⅓ cup all-purpose flour
• ⅓ cup brown sugar
• ½ tsp cinnamon
• Pinch of salt
• ¼ cup (½ stick) cold butter, cubed (or coconut oil)

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Lightly grease an 8×8-inch baking dish.
  2. Make the filling: In a bowl, toss apple slices with brown sugar, lemon juice, cinnamon, nutmeg, and cornstarch. Spread evenly in the dish.
  3. Make the topping: In another bowl, combine oats, flour, brown sugar, cinnamon, and salt. Cut in cold butter using a pastry cutter or fork until mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
  4. Sprinkle topping evenly over apples.
  5. Bake 30–35 minutes, until apples are tender and topping is golden and crisp.
  6. Let cool slightly before serving—perfect with a scoop of vanilla ice cream or whipped cream!

Simple, wholesome, and bursting with fall flavor!

💡 Make it ahead: Assemble unbaked crisp, cover, and refrigerate overnight. Add 5–10 minutes to bake time.
