Citrus Delight Rolls – A Refreshing Twist on Sweet Rolls

Ingredients

For the dough:
• 2 ¼ tsp (1 packet) active dry yeast
• ¼ cup warm milk (105–110°F / 40–43°C)
• 1 tbsp sugar
• ½ cup warm water
• ⅓ cup granulated sugar
• ⅓ cup unsalted butter, melted (or coconut oil)
• 1 egg
• 1 tsp vanilla extract
• 3 ½ cups all-purpose flour (plus extra for dusting)
• ½ tsp salt

For the citrus filling:
• ½ cup powdered sugar
• Zest of 1 orange + 1 lemon
• 2 tbsp fresh orange juice
• 1 tbsp softened butter
• 1 tsp cornstarch (to absorb moisture)

For the glaze (optional):
• ½ cup powdered sugar
• 1–2 tbsp citrus juice (orange or lemon)
• ½ tsp vanilla extract


Instructions

  1. Activate yeast: In a bowl, mix warm milk, 1 tbsp sugar, and yeast. Let sit 5–10 minutes until foamy.
  2. In a large bowl or stand mixer, combine yeast mixture, warm water, ⅓ cup sugar, melted butter, egg, and vanilla.
  3. Gradually add flour and salt, mixing until a soft dough forms. Knead 3–5 minutes until smooth and elastic.
  4. Place in a greased bowl, cover, and let rise 1 hour or until doubled.
  5. Make the filling: Mix powdered sugar, citrus zest, softened butter, citrus juice, and cornstarch into a thick paste.
  6. Roll dough into a 9×12-inch rectangle on a floured surface. Spread filling evenly over dough.
  7. Roll up tightly from the long side. Pinch seam to seal. Cut into 12 slices.
  8. Place rolls cut-side up in a greased 9×9-inch pan. Cover and rise 30 minutes.
  9. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Bake 20–25 minutes, until golden.
  10. Cool slightly, then drizzle with citrus glaze for extra brightness!

These rolls smell like sunshine and taste like a vacation in every bite!

💡 Make ahead: Refrigerate assembled rolls overnight, then bake fresh in the morning.
