  • Author: WAFA LI
  • Total Time: ~25 mins

Description

Crispy golden batter, dusted with sweet powdered sugar — these classic funnel cakes are the ultimate fair-style treat made easy for home cooking!

Ingredients

Scale

1 cup all-purpose flour
2 tbsp granulated sugar
1 tsp baking powder
1/4 tsp salt
1/2 cup milk
1 large egg
1/2 tsp vanilla extract
Oil for frying (vegetable, canola, or peanut oil)
Powdered sugar, for dusting
Optional toppings: whipped cream, chocolate sauce, fruit syrup

Instructions

In a bowl, whisk together flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt.
Add milk, egg, and vanilla. Whisk until smooth and slightly runny — like pancake batter. Let rest 5–10 minutes.
Heat oil in a deep skillet or pot to about 375°F (190°C).
Using a funnel or a plastic bag with a small cut corner, slowly drizzle batter into the hot oil in a circular pattern to form lacy, layered fried dough.
Fry each cake for about 1–2 minutes per side, until golden brown and crispy.
Remove from oil and drain on paper towels.
Immediately dust generously with powdered sugar before serving. Add extra toppings if desired.
