Ingredients

• 3 cups all-purpose flour • 2 cups granulated sugar • 1 cup butter, softened • 4 eggs • 1 cup buttermilk • 1 tsp vanilla extract • 2 tsp baking powder • ½ tsp salt

FOR CARAMEL FILLING: • 1 cup brown sugar • ½ cup butter • ¼ cup heavy cream • 2 tbsp corn syrup

FOR CARAMEL FROSTING: • 1 cup butter, softened • 4 cups powdered sugar • ¼ cup caramel sauce • 2-3 tbsp heavy cream • 1 tsp vanilla extract


Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F
  2. Grease and flour three 9-inch round cake pans
  3. Cream butter and sugar until fluffy
  4. Add eggs one at a time, beating well
  5. Mix in vanilla extract
  6. Combine flour, baking powder, and salt
  7. Alternate adding flour mixture and buttermilk
  8. Divide batter between pans
  9. Bake 25-30 minutes until toothpick comes clean
  10. Cool 10 minutes in pans, then turn out
  11. For caramel: heat brown sugar, butter, cream, and corn syrup
  12. Boil 2 minutes, cool completely
  13. Beat butter for frosting until creamy
  14. Gradually add powdered sugar, caramel sauce, and cream
  15. Add vanilla and beat until smooth
  16. Layer cake with caramel filling and frosting
