Deep Fried Marshmallows – The Gooey, Crispy Treat You Never Knew You Needed

Ingredients

• 1 bag (10 oz) large marshmallows
• 1 cup all-purpose flour (or gluten-free blend)
• 2 tbsp sugar
• ½ tsp cinnamon (optional)
• ¼ tsp salt
• 1 tsp baking powder
• ¾ cup milk (dairy or plant-based)
• 1 egg
• Oil for deep frying (vegetable, canola, or peanut)
• Optional coatings:
• Powdered sugar
• Cinnamon sugar
• Crushed graham crackers
• Chocolate or caramel drizzle


Instructions

  1. Make the batter: In a bowl, whisk flour, sugar, cinnamon (if using), salt, and baking powder.
  2. In another bowl, beat egg, then whisk in milk until smooth. Pour into dry ingredients and stir until just combined (batter should coat the back of a spoon).
  3. Thread marshmallows onto skewers or bamboo sticks (2–3 per stick—don’t overcrowd).
  4. Heat oil in a deep pot or fryer to 350°F (175°C).
  5. Dip each marshmallow skewer into the batter, letting excess drip off.
  6. Carefully lower into hot oil (fry 1–2 at a time). Fry 1–2 minutes, turning gently, until golden brown and puffed.
  7. Remove with tongs and drain on paper towels.
  8. While still warm, roll in powdered sugar, cinnamon sugar, or crushed graham crackers.
  9. Drizzle with melted chocolate or caramel if desired.

Serve immediately—they’re best when warm and oozing!

💡 Safety first: Use long skewers and keep hands clear of hot oil. Great for fairs, campfires (air fryer version below), or Halloween parties!

Air Fryer Option:
→ Lightly spray battered marshmallow sticks with oil. Air fry at 370°F (185°C) for 4–5 mins, flipping halfway.
