Enchanting Sweet Delight: Witch Hat Cupcakes

  • Author: WAFA LI

Ingredients

For the cupcakes:
• 1 cup all-purpose flour (or gluten-free 1:1 blend)
• ½ cup cocoa powder (unsweetened)
• ¾ cup granulated sugar
• 1 tsp baking soda
• ¼ tsp salt
• 1 egg
• ½ cup milk (dairy or plant-based)
• ¼ cup vegetable oil or melted coconut oil
• 1 tsp vanilla extract
• ½ cup hot water

For the “hat” assembly:
• 12 Oreo or chocolate sandwich cookies (for the brim)
• ½ cup chocolate frosting or buttercream (homemade or store-bought)
• Optional: black food-safe gel or edible paint for extra dark magic

Instructions

  1. Make the cupcakes: Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Line a muffin tin with 12 cupcake liners.
  2. In a bowl, sift together flour, cocoa powder, sugar, baking soda, and salt.
  3. Add egg, milk, oil, and vanilla. Beat until smooth. Stir in hot water (batter will be thin).
  4. Divide batter into liners (about ⅔ full). Bake 18–20 minutes, until a toothpick comes out clean. Cool completely.

Assemble the witch hats:
5. Once cooled, spread a thick swirl of chocolate frosting on top of each cupcake.
6. Gently press an Oreo cookie on top at an angle to resemble a witch’s hat brim.
7. Optional: Use black gel or edible paint to darken any visible edges for a more dramatic look.
8. For extra enchantment, dust with edible glitter or sprinkle crushed chocolate cookies around the base like magic potion spill!

Perfect for Halloween parties, school events, or bewitching dessert tables!

💡 Make it fun: Let kids decorate their own during a spooky baking party!
