For the bars:

  • ¾ cup (1½ sticks / 170g) unsalted butter, softened
  • 1½ cups (300g) granulated sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 2 tsp vanilla extract
  • 2½ cups (315g) all-purpose flour
  • 1½ tsp baking powder
  • ½ tsp salt

For the cream cheese frosting:

  • 4 oz (115g) cream cheese, softened
  • ¼ cup (½ stick / 55g) unsalted butter, softened
  • 2 cups (240g) powdered sugar
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • Pinch of salt
  • Optional: sprinkles or colored sugar

Instructions

  1. Prep: Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9×13″ baking pan; line with parchment for easy removal.
  2. Make batter: In a large bowl, beat butter and sugar until light and fluffy (~3 min). Add eggs one at a time, then vanilla.
  3. Add dry ingredients: Whisk flour, baking powder, and salt. Gradually mix into wet ingredients until just combined (don’t overmix).
  4. Bake: Spread batter evenly into pan. Bake 20–25 minutes, until edges are golden and center springs back when touched. Cool completely.
  5. Make frosting: Beat cream cheese and butter until smooth. Gradually add powdered sugar, vanilla, and salt. Whip until fluffy.
  6. Frost & decorate: Spread over cooled bars. Add sprinkles if desired. Cut into squares.
