Franken Berry Krispies: A Monstrously Fun Halloween Treat for Kids & Nostalgic Grown-Ups

Ingredients

• 6 cups rice cereal (crisp rice, gluten-free if needed)
• 1 tbsp butter or coconut oil
• 1 package (10 oz) marshmallows (or mini vegan marshmallows)
• 1/2 tsp vanilla extract
• 1/2 tsp almond extract (optional, for “monster” flavor)
• 2–3 drops red or pink food gel (or natural berry powder for coloring)
• Halloween sprinkles (orange, black, or white)
• Optional: Candy eyes, crushed freeze-dried strawberries for extra “berry” flavor


Instructions

  1. Line a baking pan (9×9 inch) with parchment paper or grease lightly.
  2. In a large pot, melt butter over low heat. Add marshmallows and stir until fully melted and smooth.
  3. Remove from heat. Stir in vanilla, almond extract (if using), and food coloring until vibrant pink or red.
  4. Fold in rice cereal until completely coated—don’t crush!
  5. Quickly mix in a handful of Halloween sprinkles or crushed berries.
  6. Press mixture firmly into the pan using a greased spatula or wax paper.
  7. Optional: Press candy eyes or more sprinkles on top for a “Franken” look.
  8. Let cool 15–20 minutes until set. Cut into squares or spooky shapes.
