Homemade Apple Cider Syrup: A Sweet Fall-Inspired Topping

Ingredients

• 4 cups apple cider • 1 cup brown sugar • ½ cup granulated sugar • 1 cinnamon stick • 5 whole cloves • 2 star anise • 1 tsp vanilla extract • ¼ tsp nutmeg


Instructions

  1. In medium saucepan, combine apple cider and both sugars
  2. Add cinnamon stick, cloves, and star anise
  3. Bring mixture to boil over medium heat
  4. Reduce heat and simmer 20-25 minutes
  5. Stir occasionally until syrup thickens
  6. Remove from heat and stir in vanilla extract
  7. Add nutmeg and stir to combine
  8. Strain syrup through fine mesh sieve
  9. Discard spices and cinnamon stick
  10. Let cool completely
  11. Transfer to clean bottles or jars
  12. Store covered in refrigerator for up to 2 weeks
  13. Shake well before using
