Ingredients

• 6 lbs apples, peeled and sliced (Granny Smith or Honeycrisp) • ¾ cup granulated sugar • 2 tbsp brown sugar • ¼ cup all-purpose flour • 1 tsp cinnamon • ¼ tsp nutmeg • ¼ tsp cloves • 2 tbsp butter • 1 tbsp lemon juice • 1 tsp vanilla extract


Instructions

  1. Peel, core, and slice apples into thin wedges
  2. In large pot, combine sliced apples and both sugars
  3. Add flour, cinnamon, nutmeg, and cloves
  4. Toss until apples are well coated
  5. Add butter, lemon juice, and vanilla
  6. Cook over medium heat, stirring frequently
  7. Reduce heat to low and simmer 15-20 minutes
  8. Stir occasionally until apples are tender but not mushy
  9. Remove from heat and let cool completely
  10. Use immediately or store covered in refrigerator
  11. Filling will keep for up to 5 days
