Ingredients
• 6 lbs apples, peeled and sliced (Granny Smith or Honeycrisp) • ¾ cup granulated sugar • 2 tbsp brown sugar • ¼ cup all-purpose flour • 1 tsp cinnamon • ¼ tsp nutmeg • ¼ tsp cloves • 2 tbsp butter • 1 tbsp lemon juice • 1 tsp vanilla extract
Instructions
- Peel, core, and slice apples into thin wedges
- In large pot, combine sliced apples and both sugars
- Add flour, cinnamon, nutmeg, and cloves
- Toss until apples are well coated
- Add butter, lemon juice, and vanilla
- Cook over medium heat, stirring frequently
- Reduce heat to low and simmer 15-20 minutes
- Stir occasionally until apples are tender but not mushy
- Remove from heat and let cool completely
- Use immediately or store covered in refrigerator
- Filling will keep for up to 5 days
