Homemade Salted Caramel Sauce Recipe

  • Author: WAFA LI

Ingredients

• 1 cup granulated sugar
• 6 tbsp unsalted butter, cubed (or coconut oil)
• ½ cup heavy cream or full-fat coconut milk (room temperature)
• 1 tsp vanilla extract
• ½–1 tsp flaky sea salt (to taste)

Instructions

  1. In a medium saucepan over medium heat, melt sugar without stirring. Swirl the pan gently as it melts to an amber color (5–7 minutes). Watch closely—it burns fast!
  2. Once sugar is fully melted and golden-amber, carefully add butter. Whisk until melted and blended (mixture will bubble).
  3. Slowly pour in heavy cream while whisking constantly (it will bubble vigorously).
  4. Cook 1–2 more minutes until smooth and slightly thickened.
  5. Remove from heat. Stir in vanilla and sea salt. Start with ½ tsp salt and add more to taste.
  6. Let cool 10–15 minutes before using. The sauce will thicken as it cools.

Uses:
• Drizzle over ice cream, brownies, or apple slices
• Swirl into coffee, lattes, or hot chocolate
• Fill cupcakes, crepes, or cheesecakes
• Gift in pretty jars with a ribbon

💡 Storage: Store in a sealed jar in the fridge up to 2 weeks. Reheat gently in the microwave or on the stove with a splash of cream to restore smoothness.
