Hot Fudge Pudding Cake (Rich Chocolate Dessert with Gooey Fudge Sauce)

  • Author: WAFA LI

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup (125g) all-purpose flour
  • ¾ cup (150g) granulated sugar
  • ¼ cup (25g) unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 2 tsp baking powder
  • ¼ tsp salt
  • ½ cup milk
  • 2 tbsp unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • ½ cup packed brown sugar
  • ¼ cup (25g) unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1¼ cups hot water

Instructions

  1. Prep: Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease an 8×8″ or 9×9″ baking dish.
  2. Make cake batter: In a bowl, whisk flour, ¾ cup sugar, ¼ cup cocoa, baking powder, and salt. Stir in milk, melted butter, and vanilla until smooth. Spread evenly in baking dish.
  3. Make sauce layer: In a small bowl, mix brown sugar and ¼ cup cocoa. Sprinkle evenly over cake batter—do not stir.
  4. Add hot water: Slowly pour hot water over the back of a spoon onto the surface—do not mix. The magic happens during baking!
  5. Bake 35–40 minutes, until cake is set on top but sauce bubbles around edges.
  6. Serve warm in bowls, straight from the dish. Top with vanilla ice cream or whipped cream if desired.
💡 Pro Tips:
Don’t stir after adding water—the layers form naturally as it bakes.
– For extra decadence, add chocolate chips to the batter or a splash of espresso powder to deepen flavor.
– Best served fresh—it loses its saucy texture when cooled.
