Overnight Crème Brûlée French Toast – A Decadent Make-Ahead Breakfast

Ingredients

• 8 thick slices brioche or challah bread • 4 eggs • 1 cup heavy cream • ¼ cup granulated sugar • 2 tsp vanilla extract • 1 tsp cinnamon • ¼ tsp nutmeg • 2 tbsp butter, melted • ¼ cup brown sugar for topping • 2 tbsp granulated sugar for torching


Instructions

  1. Butter bottom of 9×13 inch baking dish
  2. Arrange bread slices in single layer
  3. Whisk together eggs, heavy cream, sugar, vanilla, cinnamon, and nutmeg
  4. Pour custard mixture over bread
  5. Press bread down to absorb liquid
  6. Cover and refrigerate overnight (8-12 hours)
  7. Preheat oven to 350°F
  8. Remove dish from refrigerator while oven heats
  9. Sprinkle brown sugar evenly over soaked bread
  10. Bake 25-30 minutes until edges are golden
  11. Cool 5 minutes
  12. Sprinkle granulated sugar on top
  13. Use kitchen torch to caramelize sugar
  14. Serve immediately with maple syrup
