Ingredients
• 8 thick slices brioche or challah bread • 4 eggs • 1 cup heavy cream • ¼ cup granulated sugar • 2 tsp vanilla extract • 1 tsp cinnamon • ¼ tsp nutmeg • 2 tbsp butter, melted • ¼ cup brown sugar for topping • 2 tbsp granulated sugar for torching
Instructions
- Butter bottom of 9×13 inch baking dish
- Arrange bread slices in single layer
- Whisk together eggs, heavy cream, sugar, vanilla, cinnamon, and nutmeg
- Pour custard mixture over bread
- Press bread down to absorb liquid
- Cover and refrigerate overnight (8-12 hours)
- Preheat oven to 350°F
- Remove dish from refrigerator while oven heats
- Sprinkle brown sugar evenly over soaked bread
- Bake 25-30 minutes until edges are golden
- Cool 5 minutes
- Sprinkle granulated sugar on top
- Use kitchen torch to caramelize sugar
- Serve immediately with maple syrup
