Ingredients
Scale
- 6–7 medium Granny Smith or Honeycrisp apples (about 3 lbs), peeled, cored, and sliced ¼” thick
- ½ cup (1 stick / 115g) unsalted butter
- ½ cup packed brown sugar
- ¼ cup granulated sugar
- 1½ tsp ground cinnamon
- ¼ tsp nutmeg (optional)
- 1 tbsp lemon juice
- Pinch of salt
Instructions
- Prep apples: Toss apple slices with lemon juice to prevent browning.
- Layer in slow cooker: Place apples in the crock.
- Make syrup: In a small saucepan, melt butter over medium heat. Stir in brown sugar, granulated sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg (if using), and salt. Heat just until sugars dissolve (do not boil).
- Pour over apples: Pour warm syrup evenly over apples. Gently stir once to coat (avoid breaking slices).
- Cook:
- Low: 4–5 hours
- High: 2–3 hours
Until apples are tender but still hold their shape.
- Serve warm as a side, topping, or dessert.
💡 Pro Tips:
– Granny Smith apples hold up best—they stay firm and balance sweetness with tartness.
– For extra richness, stir in 1 tbsp bourbon or vanilla extract at the end.
– Store in fridge up to 5 days or freeze for 2 months. Reheat gently on stove or microwave.
