Slow Cooker Cracker Barrel-Style Fried Apples (Tender, Buttery & Cinnamon-Spiced)

  • Author: WAFA LI

Ingredients

Scale
  • 67 medium Granny Smith or Honeycrisp apples (about 3 lbs), peeled, cored, and sliced ¼” thick
  • ½ cup (1 stick / 115g) unsalted butter
  • ½ cup packed brown sugar
  • ¼ cup granulated sugar
  • 1½ tsp ground cinnamon
  • ¼ tsp nutmeg (optional)
  • 1 tbsp lemon juice
  • Pinch of salt

Instructions

  1. Prep apples: Toss apple slices with lemon juice to prevent browning.
  2. Layer in slow cooker: Place apples in the crock.
  3. Make syrup: In a small saucepan, melt butter over medium heat. Stir in brown sugar, granulated sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg (if using), and salt. Heat just until sugars dissolve (do not boil).
  4. Pour over apples: Pour warm syrup evenly over apples. Gently stir once to coat (avoid breaking slices).
  5. Cook:
    • Low: 4–5 hours
    • High: 2–3 hours
Until apples are tender but still hold their shape.
  6. Serve warm as a side, topping, or dessert.
💡 Pro Tips:
Granny Smith apples hold up best—they stay firm and balance sweetness with tartness.
– For extra richness, stir in 1 tbsp bourbon or vanilla extract at the end.
– Store in fridge up to 5 days or freeze for 2 months. Reheat gently on stove or microwave.
