Deep-Dish Pizza Pie

Ingredients

• 1 lb (450g) Italian sausage, casings removed (mild or hot)
• ½ lb (225g) ground beef
• 1 small onion, diced
• 2 cloves garlic, minced
• 1 can (28 oz) crushed tomatoes
• 2 tbsp tomato paste
• 1 tbsp sugar (optional, to balance acidity)
• 1 tsp dried oregano
• 1 tsp dried basil
• ½ tsp red pepper flakes (optional)
• Salt & black pepper to taste
• 1 unbaked 9-inch deep-dish pie crust (or homemade)
• 2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese (divided)
• ½ cup grated Parmesan cheese
• 6 slices pepperoni (optional)


Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. In a skillet over medium heat, cook sausage and ground beef until browned. Drain excess fat if needed.
  3. Add onion and sauté 4–5 minutes until soft. Stir in garlic and cook 30 seconds more.
  4. Stir in crushed tomatoes, tomato paste, sugar, oregano, basil, red pepper flakes, salt, and pepper. Simmer 10 minutes to thicken.
  5. Pour mixture into the unbaked pie crust.
  6. Sprinkle with 1½ cups mozzarella and Parmesan. Top with pepperoni (if using).
  7. Cover with foil and bake 30 minutes.
  8. Uncover and bake 10–15 more minutes, until bubbly and golden.
  9. Let rest 5 minutes before slicing. Serve hot!

• Garlic bread sticks
• A crisp green salad
• Extra marinara for dipping

💡 Make ahead: Assemble unbaked pie, cover, and refrigerate overnight. Bake when ready (+5 mins).
