Ingredients
• 1 lb (450g) ground beef
• ½ lb (225g) Italian sausage (mild or hot), casings removed
• ½ cup sliced pepperoni
• 1 small onion, diced
• 2 cloves garlic, minced
• 1 can (15 oz) pizza sauce or marinara
• 1 tsp Italian seasoning
• ½ tsp red pepper flakes (optional, for heat)
• Salt & black pepper to taste
• 1 unbaked 9-inch deep-dish pie crust (or homemade)
• 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese (divided)
• ½ cup grated Parmesan cheese
• 1 egg (optional, for binding)
• Fresh basil or parsley, chopped (for garnish)
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C).
- In a skillet over medium heat, cook ground beef and sausage until browned. Drain excess fat if needed.
- Add onion and cook 4–5 minutes until soft. Stir in garlic, pizza sauce, Italian seasoning, red pepper flakes, salt, and pepper. Simmer 5 minutes.
- Remove from heat. Stir in pepperoni, ¾ cup mozzarella, Parmesan, and egg (if using). Mix well.
- Pour mixture into the unbaked pie crust. Top with remaining ¼ cup mozzarella.
- Bake 35–40 minutes, until bubbly, golden, and heated through.
- Let cool 5 minutes before slicing. Garnish with fresh herbs.
