Hearty Pizza Casserole Pie – The Ultimate Comfort Food for Every Occasion

Ingredients

• 1 sheet refrigerated pizza dough or crescent roll dough (or homemade)
• ½ lb (225g) ground Italian sausage or pepperoni, sliced
• 1 tbsp olive oil
• 1 small onion, diced
• 1 clove garlic, minced
• 1 cup marinara or pizza sauce
• 1 tsp Italian seasoning
• 1 ½ cups shredded mozzarella cheese (divided)
• ½ cup grated Parmesan cheese (divided)
• 1 egg
• ½ cup ricotta cheese (optional, for creaminess)
• Fresh basil, chopped (for garnish)


Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Lightly grease a 9-inch pie dish or deep tart pan.
  2. Roll out pizza dough and press into the dish, fluting edges slightly. Prick base with a fork. Bake 8–10 minutes until lightly golden. Remove and set aside.
  3. In a skillet over medium heat, warm olive oil. Sauté onion 4–5 minutes until soft. Add garlic and cook 30 seconds more.
  4. Stir in sausage (if using raw), cooking until browned. Drain excess fat if needed.
  5. Add marinara sauce and Italian seasoning. Simmer 3–4 minutes. Remove from heat.
  6. In a bowl, mix ricotta (if using), ½ cup mozzarella, ¼ cup Parmesan, and egg.
  7. Spread meat-sauce mixture over the pre-baked crust. Spoon ricotta mixture on top and spread gently.
  8. Sprinkle with remaining mozzarella and Parmesan.
  9. Bake 20–25 minutes, until bubbly and golden on top.
  10. Let cool 5 minutes. Garnish with fresh basil and slice into wedges.
