Ingredients
1 lb ground beef (or lamb for traditional shepherd’s pie)
½ cup diced onion
2 cloves garlic, minced
1 cup chopped mushrooms (optional, for extra texture)
1 cup sugar-free marinara sauce or tomato paste + broth
1 tsp Worcestershire sauce (keto-friendly)
½ tsp dried thyme
Salt and pepper to taste
2 cups mashed cauliflower (steamed and mashed with butter or cream cheese)
2 tbsp heavy cream or coconut cream (for creamy mash)
2 tbsp butter or olive oil (for cooking and topping)
Instructions
Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C).
In a skillet over medium heat, cook ground beef until browned. Drain excess fat if needed.
Add onion, garlic, and mushrooms. Cook for 4–5 minutes until softened.
Stir in marinara sauce, Worcestershire, thyme, salt, and pepper. Simmer for 5–7 minutes.
Transfer the meat mixture to a greased 8×8-inch baking dish or oven-safe skillet.
Mix mashed cauliflower with cream and butter until smooth and slightly thickened. Spread over the meat layer.
