Ingredients
1 lb. breakfast sausage (450 g)
1/2 sweet onion, chopped (optional)
1/3 cup all-purpose flour (40 g)
3 1/2 cups whole milk (840 ml)
1/2 tsp. seasoned salt
1/2 tsp. ground black pepper, plus more to taste
1 tsp. dried sage or thyme (optional)
Salt, to taste
Biscuits, for serving
Instructions
1. In a large skillet, cook small pieces of sausage and onion over medium heat until browned, about 8-10 minutes.
2. Lower heat, add flour, and cook for 2 minutes, stirring.
3. Gradually stir in milk, bring to a boil, then simmer for 8-10 minutes until thickened.
4. Season with salt and pepper, and serve over warm biscuits.
