  • Author: WAFA LI

Ingredients

• 1 lb (450g) ground sirloin or chuck (or plant-based crumbles)
• 1 tbsp olive oil
• 1 small onion, diced
• 1 cup sliced mushrooms (cremini or white)
• 2 cloves garlic, minced
• ½ cup ketchup
• 2 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
• 1 tbsp Dijon mustard
• 1 tbsp bourbon or beef broth (optional, for depth)
• 1 tsp smoked paprika
• ½ tsp garlic powder
• Salt & black pepper to taste
• 4 soft hamburger buns (brioche or potato rolls)
• Optional toppings: sautéed onions, pickles, shredded cheese

Instructions

  1. In a skillet over medium heat, warm olive oil. Sauté onion and mushrooms 6–7 minutes until tender and golden. Add garlic and cook 30 seconds more.
  2. Add ground steak and cook 6–8 minutes, breaking it apart, until browned and cooked through. Drain excess fat if needed.
  3. Stir in ketchup, Worcestershire, Dijon, bourbon (if using), smoked paprika, garlic powder, salt, and pepper.
  4. Simmer 8–10 minutes, stirring occasionally, until thickened and deeply flavorful.
  5. Toast buns lightly if desired.
  6. Spoon mixture onto bun bottoms. Top with extra sautéed onions, pickles, or a slice of cheddar.
  7. Serve immediately while warm and juicy!
