Ingredients
• 1 lb (450g) ground sirloin or chuck (or plant-based crumbles)
• 1 tbsp olive oil
• 1 small onion, diced
• 1 cup sliced mushrooms (cremini or white)
• 2 cloves garlic, minced
• ½ cup ketchup
• 2 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
• 1 tbsp Dijon mustard
• 1 tbsp bourbon or beef broth (optional, for depth)
• 1 tsp smoked paprika
• ½ tsp garlic powder
• Salt & black pepper to taste
• 4 soft hamburger buns (brioche or potato rolls)
• Optional toppings: sautéed onions, pickles, shredded cheese
Instructions
- In a skillet over medium heat, warm olive oil. Sauté onion and mushrooms 6–7 minutes until tender and golden. Add garlic and cook 30 seconds more.
- Add ground steak and cook 6–8 minutes, breaking it apart, until browned and cooked through. Drain excess fat if needed.
- Stir in ketchup, Worcestershire, Dijon, bourbon (if using), smoked paprika, garlic powder, salt, and pepper.
- Simmer 8–10 minutes, stirring occasionally, until thickened and deeply flavorful.
- Toast buns lightly if desired.
- Spoon mixture onto bun bottoms. Top with extra sautéed onions, pickles, or a slice of cheddar.
- Serve immediately while warm and juicy!
