Ingredients

• 1½ lbs (680g) ground beef (85/15)
• 1 small onion, finely chopped
• 1 (10.5 oz) can condensed cream of mushroom soup (or cream of chicken)
• 1 (14.75 oz) can creamed corn
• 1½ cups shredded cheddar cheese
• 1 (32 oz) bag frozen tater tots
• Salt & black pepper to taste
• Optional: ½ tsp garlic powder, ½ cup sour cream, or 1 cup frozen peas/carrots


Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Grease a 9×13″ baking dish.
  2. In a skillet over medium heat, brown ground beef with onion until no pink remains. Drain excess fat. Season with salt, pepper, and garlic powder (if using).
  3. Stir in cream of mushroom soup and creamed corn. Cook 2–3 min until blended. For extra richness, mix in sour cream.
  4. Spread mixture evenly in baking dish. Sprinkle with 1 cup cheese.
  5. Arrange tater tots in a tight, overlapping layer over top.
  6. Bake 40–45 minutes until tots are deep golden and crispy.
  7. Sprinkle remaining ½ cup cheese over hot casserole; let melt 2–3 min.
  8. Let rest 5 minutes before serving—this helps it set for cleaner slices!
