Halloween Ground Beef Turnovers: Spooky, Savory Hand Pies for Your Fright Night Feast

  • Author: WAFA LI

Ingredients

• 1 lb (450g) lean ground beef
• 1/2 cup diced onion
• 1/2 cup diced bell pepper (orange or red for Halloween colors)
• 1 clove garlic, minced
• 1/2 tsp cumin
• 1/2 tsp smoked paprika
• 1/4 tsp chili powder
• Salt & pepper to taste
• 1/2 cup tomato sauce (no sugar added)
• 6 whole wheat or gluten-free tortillas (8-inch)
• 1 egg (for egg wash – optional)
• Cooking spray or olive oil

Instructions

  1. In a skillet over medium heat, cook ground beef until browned. Drain excess fat.
  2. Add onion, bell pepper, and garlic. Sauté 5–6 minutes until soft.
  3. Stir in cumin, paprika, chili powder, salt, pepper, and tomato sauce. Simmer 5 minutes. Remove from heat and let cool slightly.
  4. Spoon about 1/3 cup filling onto each tortilla. Fold over into a half-moon shape and press edges with a fork to seal.
  5. Optional: Brush tops with beaten egg for golden shine.
  6. Heat a skillet or grill pan with a little oil or spray. Cook turnovers 3–4 minutes per side, until golden and crisp.
  7. Serve warm with a side of sour cream, guacamole, or salsa!

Tip: Cut a small “crust” face or bat shape on top before cooking for a fun Halloween twist!
