For the Blackberry Sauce:
- 3 cups fresh or frozen blackberries
- 1/2 cup maple syrup
- 1 1/2 cups water
- 1 tbsp lemon juice
- 1/2 tsp cinnamon
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- 1 tbsp cornstarch + 2 tbsp water (slurry)
For the Dumplings:
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 1 1/2 tsp baking powder
- 1/4 tsp salt
- 1/2 cup milk
- 1 tbsp coconut oil or melted butter
- 1 tbsp maple syrup
Instructions
- In a saucepan, combine blackberries, maple syrup, water, lemon juice, cinnamon, and vanilla.
- Bring to a gentle boil over medium heat.
- Stir in cornstarch slurry and cook until sauce slightly thickens.
- In a bowl, mix flour, baking powder, salt, milk, coconut oil, and maple syrup until a soft dough forms.
- Drop spoonfuls of dough directly into the simmering blackberry sauce.
- Cover and cook on low heat for 12–15 minutes, until dumplings are puffed and cooked through.
- Spoon into bowls and serve warm.
