For the Blackberry Sauce:

  • 3 cups fresh or frozen blackberries
  • 1/2 cup maple syrup
  • 1 1/2 cups water
  • 1 tbsp lemon juice
  • 1/2 tsp cinnamon
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 tbsp cornstarch + 2 tbsp water (slurry)

For the Dumplings:

 

  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 1/2 tsp baking powder
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1 tbsp coconut oil or melted butter
  • 1 tbsp maple syrup

Instructions

  1. In a saucepan, combine blackberries, maple syrup, water, lemon juice, cinnamon, and vanilla.
  2. Bring to a gentle boil over medium heat.
  3. Stir in cornstarch slurry and cook until sauce slightly thickens.
  4. In a bowl, mix flour, baking powder, salt, milk, coconut oil, and maple syrup until a soft dough forms.
  5. Drop spoonfuls of dough directly into the simmering blackberry sauce.
  6. Cover and cook on low heat for 12–15 minutes, until dumplings are puffed and cooked through.
  7. Spoon into bowls and serve warm.
