For the Bread Pudding:
- 6 cups day-old bread, cubed
- 2 cups milk
- 3 large eggs
- 1/2 cup sugar
- 1/3 cup brown sugar
- 1/4 cup butter, melted
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- 1 tsp cinnamon
- 1/4 tsp nutmeg
- 1/4 tsp salt
- 1/2 cup raisins (optional)
Vanilla Sauce:
- 1/2 cup butter
- 1/2 cup sugar
- 1/2 cup heavy cream or milk
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a baking dish.
- Place bread cubes into the dish and set aside.
- In a bowl, whisk milk, eggs, sugar, brown sugar, melted butter, vanilla, cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt.
- Pour mixture evenly over the bread, pressing lightly so it absorbs.
- Let sit for 10 minutes, then add raisins if using.
- Bake for 40–45 minutes, until set and golden on top.
- For the sauce, melt butter in a saucepan over medium heat.
- Stir in sugar and cream, cooking until smooth and slightly thickened.
- Remove from heat and add vanilla.
- Drizzle warm sauce over bread pudding before serving.
