  • 6 medium apples, washed and dried
  • 6 wooden sticks
  • 1 cup maple syrup
  • ½ cup coconut sugar
  • 2 tbsp water
  • 1 tsp lemon juice
  • ½ tsp natural food coloring (optional, assorted colors)
  • Natural sprinkles, crushed freeze-dried fruit, or chopped nuts for decorating

Instructions

  1. Insert a wooden stick firmly into the top of each apple.
  2. Line a baking sheet or tray with parchment paper.
  3. In a saucepan, combine the maple syrup, coconut sugar, water, and lemon juice.
  4. Cook over medium heat, stirring until the sugar dissolves, then simmer until the mixture thickens into a glossy syrup.
  5. Divide the syrup into separate bowls if using multiple colors, then stir in natural food coloring.
  6. Dip each apple into the coating, turning to cover completely.
  7. Let the excess coating drip off, then immediately add sprinkles, crushed freeze-dried fruit, or chopped nuts if desired.
  8. Place the apples on the prepared parchment paper and allow them to cool completely until the coating hardens.
  9. Serve immediately or store in a cool place until ready to enjoy.
