For the Apple Rings:

  • 3 large apples (Honeycrisp, Gala, or Granny Smith)
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 tbsp granulated sugar
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • 1/2 tsp cinnamon
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 1 large egg
  • 3/4 cup milk
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • Vegetable oil, for frying

For the Cinnamon Sugar Coating:

  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 tsp ground cinnamon

Instructions

  1. Peel apples if desired and slice into 1/4-inch thick rings.
  2. Use a small round cutter to remove the cores from each ring.
  3. In a bowl, whisk together flour, sugar, baking powder, cinnamon, and salt.
  4. In another bowl, whisk egg, milk, and vanilla.
  5. Add wet ingredients to dry ingredients and stir until smooth.
  6. Heat 2 inches of oil in a deep skillet or pot to 350Β°F (175Β°C).
  7. Dip each apple ring into the batter, allowing excess to drip off.
  8. Fry in batches for 1–2 minutes per side until golden brown.
  9. Transfer to a paper towel-lined plate.
  10. While still warm, toss the apple rings in the cinnamon sugar mixture.
  11. Serve warm for the best flavor and texture.
