For the Donuts:

  • 2 1/4 tsp active dry yeast (1 packet)
  • 1/4 cup warm water (110Β°F/45Β°C)
  • 3/4 cup warm whole milk
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 large egg
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 3 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • Vegetable oil, for frying

For the Glaze:

  • 2 cups powdered sugar
  • 1/4 cup whole milk
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, dissolve yeast in warm water and let stand for 5 minutes until foamy.
  2. Add warm milk, sugar, egg, and melted butter. Mix well.
  3. Stir in flour and salt until a soft dough forms.
  4. Knead the dough for 6–8 minutes until smooth and elastic.
  5. Place dough in a lightly greased bowl, cover, and let rise for 1–1Β½ hours or until doubled in size.
  6. Roll dough out to about 1/2-inch thickness on a lightly floured surface.
  7. Cut out donut shapes using a donut cutter or two round cutters.
  8. Place on parchment-lined trays, cover lightly, and let rise for 30–45 minutes.
  9. Heat oil to 350Β°F (175Β°C).
  10. Fry donuts in batches for 1–2 minutes per side until golden brown.
  11. Transfer to a wire rack set over a baking sheet.
  12. Whisk together powdered sugar, milk, and vanilla until smooth.
  13. Dip warm donuts into the glaze and place back on the rack to set.
