Ingredients

  • 1 sleeve saltine crackers (about 40 crackers)
  • 1 cup unsalted butter
  • 1 cup brown sugar
  • 2 cups semi-sweet chocolate chips
  • 1/2 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1/4 tsp sea salt (optional, for topping)

 

  • 1/2 cup chopped pecans or nuts (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper or foil.
  2. Arrange saltine crackers in a single layer on the sheet.
  3. In a saucepan, melt butter and brown sugar over medium heat. Stir constantly and bring to a boil for 3 minutes.
  4. Remove from heat and stir in vanilla extract.
  5. Pour hot caramel mixture evenly over crackers and spread quickly.
  6. Bake for 5–6 minutes until bubbly.
  7. Remove from oven and immediately sprinkle chocolate chips over the top.
  8. Let sit for 2–3 minutes until melted, then spread into an even layer.
  9. Sprinkle with sea salt and nuts if using.
  10. Chill in the refrigerator for 1 hour until set, then break into pieces.
