Ingredients
Scale
(Serves 4–6)
Blueberry syrup:
- 1 cup fresh or frozen blueberries
- ½ cup water
- Sweetener options:
→ Classic: ¼ cup granulated sugar
→ Blood sugar friendly (you love this!): 3 tbsp monk fruit blend or 2 tbsp honey
→ Keto: 2 tbsp allulose + 10 drops liquid stevia
Lemonade base:
- 1 cup freshly squeezed lemon juice (about 6–8 lemons)
- 3 cups cold water
- Ice cubes
- Optional: Sparkling water for fizz
Garnish:
- Fresh blueberries
- Lemon slices
- Mint sprigs
Instructions
1. Make blueberry syrup:
- In a small saucepan, combine blueberries, water, and your chosen sweetener.
- Bring to a simmer over medium heat. Cook 5–7 minutes, mashing berries with a spoon until broken down.
- Strain through a fine-mesh sieve into a pitcher, pressing on solids to extract all liquid. Discard skins.
2. Finish lemonade:
- Stir lemon juice and cold water into blueberry syrup.
- Taste and adjust:
→ Too tart? Add 1 tbsp sweetener
→ Too sweet? Add 2 tbsp lemon juice - Chill at least 30 minutes or serve immediately over ice.
3. Serve:
Fill glasses with ice. Pour lemonade over; top with sparkling water if desired. Garnish with blueberries, lemon slices, and mint.
💡 Pro Tips for Perfection:
✅ Use fresh lemon juice—bottled lacks brightness (roll lemons on counter first for max juice!).
✅ Strain the syrup—removes berry skins for silky texture (skip for rustic “pulp” version).
✅ Blood sugar friendly mastery (you love this!):
→ Monk fruit blend dissolves best in warm syrup
→ Add 1 tbsp chia seeds to pitcher for fiber + glycemic control
→ Net carbs: ~5g/serving (vs. 22g in classic)
✅ Keto version: Allulose + stevia prevents crystallization when chilled. Net carbs: ~2g/serving.
✅ Make ahead: Syrup keeps 1 week refrigerated; mix with lemon/water day-of.
✅ Flavor boosts:
→ Add 1 tsp lavender buds to syrup while simmering (strain out)
→ Muddle 4 fresh basil leaves per glass before pouring
→ Freeze blueberries + lemon zest in ice cubes
Storage & Variations
→ Fridge life: 4–5 days in airtight pitcher (stir before serving—natural separation occurs).
→ Adult twist: Add 1½ oz vodka or limoncello per serving.
→ Kid-friendly slush: Blend with 1 cup ice until smooth.
→ Berry swaps: Use raspberries or blackberries (adjust sweetener—raspberries are tarter).
