Ingredients

For the Dough:

  • 2 1/4 tsp active dry yeast (1 packet)
  • 1/4 cup warm water (about 110°F / 45°C)
  • 3/4 cup warm milk
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 large egg
  • 3 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • Vegetable oil (for frying)

For the Glaze:

 

  • 2 cups powdered sugar
  • 1/4 cup milk
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract

Instructions

  1. In a bowl, dissolve yeast in warm water and let sit for 5 minutes until foamy.
  2. Add warm milk, sugar, melted butter, and egg. Mix well.
  3. Stir in flour and salt until a soft dough forms.
  4. Knead dough for 6–8 minutes until smooth and elastic.
  5. Place dough in a greased bowl, cover, and let rise for 1–1.5 hours until doubled.
  6. Roll dough out to about 1/2-inch thickness.
  7. Cut out donut shapes and place on parchment paper.
  8. Let rise again for 30–45 minutes.
  9. Heat oil to 350°F (175°C).
  10. Fry donuts for 1–2 minutes per side until golden brown.
  11. Drain on paper towels.
  12. Mix glaze ingredients until smooth.
  13. Dip warm donuts into glaze and let set on a rack.
