- 40 saltine crackers
- 1 cup unsalted butter
- 1 cup brown sugar
- 2 cups semi-sweet chocolate chips
- 1/2 cup chopped pecans or almonds (optional)
- 1/2 tsp vanilla extract
- Pinch of salt
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C) and line a baking sheet with foil or parchment paper.
- Arrange saltine crackers in a single layer on the baking sheet.
- In a saucepan, melt butter and brown sugar together over medium heat. Bring to a boil and cook for 3 minutes, stirring constantly.
- Remove from heat and stir in vanilla and salt.
- Quickly pour the hot caramel mixture evenly over the crackers.
- Bake for 5 minutes until bubbly.
- Remove from oven and sprinkle chocolate chips over the hot toffee.
- Let sit for 2–3 minutes, then spread melted chocolate evenly.
- Top with chopped nuts if desired.
- Chill in the refrigerator until fully set, then break into pieces.
