Saltine Toffee: Irresistible Sweet & Salty “Christmas Crack”

Ingredients

  • 40 saltine crackers
  • 1 cup unsalted butter
  • 1 cup brown sugar
  • 2 cups semi-sweet chocolate chips
  • 1/2 cup chopped pecans or almonds (optional)
  • 1/2 tsp vanilla extract

 

  • Pinch of salt

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C) and line a baking sheet with foil or parchment paper.
  2. Arrange saltine crackers in a single layer on the baking sheet.
  3. In a saucepan, melt butter and brown sugar together over medium heat. Bring to a boil and cook for 3 minutes, stirring constantly.
  4. Remove from heat and stir in vanilla and salt.
  5. Quickly pour the hot caramel mixture evenly over the crackers.
  6. Bake for 5 minutes until bubbly.
  7. Remove from oven and sprinkle chocolate chips over the hot toffee.
  8. Let sit for 2–3 minutes, then spread melted chocolate evenly.
  9. Top with chopped nuts if desired.
  10. Chill in the refrigerator until fully set, then break into pieces.
