Amish White Bread: Soft, Fluffy, and Perfect Every Time

Ingredients

  • 2 cups warm water
  • 2/3 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 1/2 tbsp active dry yeast
  • 1/4 cup vegetable oil
  • 1 1/2 tsp salt

 

  • 6 cups all-purpose flour

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, dissolve sugar in warm water and stir in yeast. Let sit for 5–10 minutes until foamy.
  2. Add oil, salt, and flour gradually, mixing until a soft dough forms.
  3. Knead dough for 6–8 minutes until smooth and elastic.
  4. Place dough in a greased bowl, cover, and let rise for 1 hour or until doubled in size.
  5. Punch down dough and divide into two loaves.
  6. Place in greased loaf pans and let rise again for 30–40 minutes.
  7. Bake at 350°F (175°C) for 25–30 minutes until golden brown.
  8. Brush tops with butter for extra softness (optional).
  9. Cool before slicing.
